Understanding Residential Assisted Living Types (A & B)

Type A Facility – Provides care for residents who are able to follow instructions in an emergency and do not require regular attendance during sleeping hours.

Residents of Type B facilities, who need staff aid to evacuate, are incapable of following instructions in an emergency, and are required to be present at night, are housed there.

Sizes and amenities

Residents in assisted Residential living facilities typically reside in their own private or semi-private apartments, which comprise a bedroom, a kitchen area, and a bathroom.

Bedrooms can be fully or partially furnished. Private studio apartments, one-bedroom apartments with a private bedroom, one-bedroom apartments with a common bedroom, and dormitory-style sleeping quarters are all available.
